At the piano, things go wrong constantly. A piece is too hard. A chord doesn't sound right. A song they love isn't in their repertoire yet. Nate turns every one of those moments into a lesson in creative problem-solving.

The Piano
Remix Lab.
Four keyboards, four students, one song played together.
One plays the melody. One holds down the bass line. One layers in string pads. One's on a keyboard playing drums. Same song, four different jobs, and none of it works unless everyone's listening to everyone else.
This is a real band, playing together weekly at Atonement in Bloomington, with other students figuring out the same thing yours is: how to make music as a team.
Join the Remix LabMelody
Leads the song. Everyone else builds around it.

Holds the whole thing down.

Keeps everyone honest on time.
Students rotate roles. Nobody's stuck being the drummer forever.
Groups mix ages and experience levels on purpose. Explaining a concept to someone newer sharpens it for the student doing the explaining, a real skill on its own. Everyone gets turns leading and turns following.

Students actually perform. They see their practice pay off playing for local nursing homes and throughout the community. It doubles as volunteering, giving back while building real confidence in front of audiences who are genuinely glad they're there.

Nate made music his full-time career the day he graduated from Concordia College with a degree in music theory and composition, back in 2010. That included three years performing aboard Holland America cruise ships across 65 countries.
Fox9 feature. Viral improv videos with nearly a million views. Performs for schools, corporate events, and concert stages across the country.
He's played for audiences around the world, and gets just as much joy passing those same skills on to students. Teaching gives him a different kind of stage: watching a student figure something out for the first time.

Monday through Friday, 9am–4pm. No evening scramble. No weekend conflict. Built for the homeschool schedule.

Atonement Lutheran Church, 601 E 98th St, Bloomington, MN 55420. Lessons aren't affiliated with the church or any religious instruction. It's simply the space.

Private students get a discounted drop-in Piano Remix Lab session once a month, a low-risk way to try group class before committing to a full semester. Longer lessons available upon request. Free trial lesson before you commit to anything.

Why "Piano Remix Lab" instead of a regular group class?
Because that's what it is. Four students, four keyboards, four roles, one song, remixed live. Not a recital lineup. A band.
What's the actual difference between private and group lessons?
Private is built entirely around one child. Pace, repertoire, goals, all customized. Group is about playing with other people, a different skill entirely. Most families end up doing both eventually.
Is this affiliated with Atonement Lutheran Church?
No. Nate rents the space. Lessons don't include any religious instruction or content.
What if my child isn't naturally talented?
Good. Talent gets you nothing when a piece is too hard. Curiosity does. Nate's whole approach is built around what happens when something doesn't work: try a different fingering, a different rhythm, a different way in. That's the actual skill being taught.
Does Nate teach classical only, or other styles too?
Classical, jazz, pop, blues, film scores, whatever the student actually wants to play. Sheet music and playing by ear both get taught, side by side.
My child makes a lot of mistakes. Is that a problem?
Make a loud mistake. That's the standard here. An honest, imperfect performance beats a stiff, careful one every time.
